Amal and George Clooney Dress Down for a Romantic Stroll

Expectant parents-to-be George and Amal Clooney went for a picturesque stroll near their English home in Sonning on Saturday.

Walking hand-in-hand (fingers interlocking—it’s true love), the accomplished human rights lawyer and her actor husband seemingly tried to dodge the paps by obscuring their identities with hats and sunglasses.

Though wearing an oversize bomber jacket, Amal couldn’t quite hide her growing baby bump. The maternity wear maven paired her olive green covering with a deep gray scarf, dark-wash skinny jeans, and studded high-top sneakers (shop a similar look here). She added a touch of black to the ensemble with a newsboy cap and aviator shades.

Amal’s protective husband stuck by his wife’s side in a pair of light-wash jeans, a black and gray Warner Bros. logo sweatshirt, beige houndstooth fedora (shop a similar look here), and orange-tinted sunglasses.

The 6 Biggest Ways HBO’sBig Little Lies Differed from the Book

In case you missed it, HBO’s buzziest, chicest mini-series Big Little Lies aired its finale on Sunday night. The episode stayed pretty true to the novel, delivering the same twists–with some slight adjustments. Here, the biggest differences from novel to adaptation, for better, or for worse. Spoilers ahead, obviously.

Avenue Q

Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) does work part time at a community theater and is working on putting on a show, but it’s not Avenue Q and the book does not dedicate nearly as much time to the production. In the book, it serves more as Madeline’s way of proving that she does work and is not a full-time mommy.

In HBO’s retelling, Celeste (Nicole Kidman) and Perry (Alexander Skarsgard) go to therapy together (at first, that is). In the book version: Celeste goes alone and seeks out a therapist specializing in battered women. She selects one a few towns over so that no one there would recognize her—which lines up with her idea of keeping up appearances of a perfect life. But when we do get to Celeste’s one-on-one sessions, everything—the denial, the acceptance, and finding the back-up apartment—goes down pretty much exactly how the book tells it.

Liane Moriarty’s book really only tells the story from Jane (Shailene Woodley), Celeste, and Madeline’s point of view. But, oh man, was I glad to see this side of Renata (Laura Dern), who was not explored in the least in the novel. Lauren Dern, you are seriously my hero. Also, fun fact, in the novel, Renata’s husband has been cheating on her with the French nanny the whole time, so she moves to London with little Amabella.

Madeline Is a Faithful Wife

This is the one that bothered me most. Madeline and Ed’s (Adam Scott) fraught marriage is pretty much a non-issue in the book. Yes, they do have a conversation stemming from Ed’s insecurity over Madeline’s somewhat obsessive anger toward her ex-husband, but she assures him that she loves Ed, not Nathan (James Tupper). But, book Madeline is not a cheater. There’s no Joseph, no Tori, and no Avenue Q. Madeline does make questionable choices when interfering in her friends and kids lives, but her stable and happy marriage with Ed is one of her most redeeming qualities. TV Madeline is much less likable (although Reese Witherspoon can make you fall in love with any character she plays). Plus, the show glosses over her heartbreaking relationship with her ex-husband, who left Madeline and baby Abigail when she was just days old. Nathan pulled the classic “going out to get diapers and never came back” trope, leaving Madeline to raise her daughter as a single mother, until 10 years later, *poof* he wants back in their lives. Abigail, who probably didn’t realize her mother’s loss at the time, welcomes him back with open arms, which understandably, breaks her mother’s heart, leading to a strained relationship when she moves in with her once-absent dad.

Saxon Banks

This was another pretty big departure from the novel. Saxon Banks was the man who Jane thought raped her, although in the end we know it was really Perry. Book Perry borrowed his cousin’s name, “Saxon Banks,” for the night, in order to ensure his infidelity stays a secret (way to throw your cousin under the bus, Perry). When Jane tells Madeline and Celeste her rapist’s name, think they know the “true” identity of Ziggy’s father: Celeste’s cousin-in-law. Celeste keeps that information to herself, though, not wanting to out the fact that her married cousin is an adulterer. The “Saxon Baker” plotline of the TV show never happens, and in the book, the truth comes out when Jane finally meets Perry at trivia night, like in the show.

The Big Reveal

HBO stayed very true to the important plot twists: Perry is Ziggy’s father and Bonnie is the one who kills Perry. But the way it went down in the novel was slightly different than the show. All of the adults—Madeline and Ed, Celeste and Perry, Bonnie and Nathan, and Jane—are standing outside on an upper deck of the school overlooking, you guessed it, the ocean. Jane recognizes Perry, telling him that the last time they met, he said his name was Saxon Banks. Celeste now realizes that her husband isn’t just a domestic abuser, he’s also a rapist. Perry tells Celeste his night with Jane meant nothing, and she throws a drink in his face, which, of course, enrages him. He backhands her, hard, throwing her across the porch. An infuriated Bonnie pushes him, and he falls back from her yoga-toned arm strength, toppling over the balcony. Another important piece of information left out of the show: Bonnie grew up with an abusive father, and understandably, has no patience for cowardly, abusive husbands. In the novel, right before the big push is where she delivers her most epic line: “Your children see!” evoking his son’s clearly learned violent habits. “We see! We f—ing see!” Go, Bonnie!

Jenna Lyons Is Parting Ways with J.Crew

If you’re wearing a striped navy ruffled top with a scooped neckline and matching espadrilles from J.Crew, Jenna Lyons probably had something to do with it. After 26 years with the brand (most recently as creative director and president), Lyons is exiting the company, Business of Fashion reports.

So what’s next? While we’re not sure where she’ll head, Lyons will remain a creative adviser at the company through this year. Somsack Sikhounmuong, head of women’s design, will take over as chief design officer.

“Jenna and I got together and we both agreed it was time for a change,” J.Crew Chief Executive Millard “Mickey” Drexler told BoF. “That being said, she’s got plans to do other things. It’s been a great run. There’s a lot of mutual respect between Jenna and me.”

Lyons shared similar sentiments. “It has been beyond my wildest dreams to work with such an amazing team of people at such an incredible brand and alongside Mickey—one of retail’s most talented visionaries,” Lyons said in a statement. “I am excited about the next chapter for J.Crew as well as the opportunity for other creative leaders within the organization to step up and take on new responsibilities. Having spent the better part of my life with J.Crew, I feel an immense pride and love for everyone at the company.”

No one represented the J.Crew brand better that Lyons, who was best known for her signature thick-rimmed black sunglasses and her unapologetic love for fashion. In 2015, Lyons penned an essay for Lena Dunham’s Lenny Letter, explaining that her love for clothing extends as far back to her teenage years when she learned to sew.

It’s an end of an era indeed.

Tyra Banks Announces ANTM Will No Longer Have Upper Age Limit

Yesterday, Tyra Banks struck another blow to ageism in the modeling industry, when she announced that her long-running show America’s Next Top Model will no longer have an age limit. That’s right, Tyra announced that they’re officially removing limits for the show’s upcoming 24th season.

Until now, applicants needed to be between the ages of 18 and 27 to be considered for the show, in which aspiring models compete for a contract with a top agency, among other prizes. However, Banks, who will be returning next season as the show’s host, took to social media yesterday to announce the upper age limit is being removed. In the message, she explains that she’s always promoted diverse beauty and wants to do away with “cookie cutter” models.

“You know what I hear all the time?” she explained in her video, “‘Tyra, come on! Why have an age limit?’ So, you know what? I’m taking that age limit off. You want to audition for America’s Next Top Model? I don’t care how old you are, honey. You just have to know how to smize and be open to learning how to work the runway like a supermodel.”

This is undeniably a step in the right direction for the fashion industry, which has historically been criticized for using predominantly younger—and even underaged—models. And as icons like Kristen McMenamy, Liberty Ross, and Tyra herself have all proven, there’s no age limit on talent!

Bear Witness to Brooklyn Beckham’s First David-InspiredTattoo

Like father, like son! Brooklyn Beckham celebrated his 18th birthday at the beginning of March, and that means he’s finally old enough to get a tattoo. Yesterday, Beckham took advantage of this newfound freedom, getting his first piece of ink on his forearm.

Beckham is the oldest child of David and Victoria Beckham, and his father, the former pro soccer player, is known for his plentiful tattoos—two full arm sleeves, as well as several tats on his chest and back. Beckham took a cue from his dad when he got his first tattoo, having it done by Mark Mahoney, a family friend, and even picking a design inspired by his father’s impressive collection.

Beckham shared several artsy black-and-white photographs from his time at the tattoo parlor, first showing Mahoney working on his forearm. Under the first pic, the young photographer wrote that his tattoo was “just like dads.”

After a bit of suspense, Beckham’s last post revealed the design of his tat: a Native American chief. David Beckham has a similar tattoo on his torso, so it really is just like his father’s!

The Beckham family has always been tight-knit, and this is just another example of how much they love one another. And while many dads might object to their kids getting tatted up, we have a feeling David won’t mind…

“I’ve been giving it some thought, and you know what, who hasn’t wanted to punch Chandler? How about a rematch @MatthewPerry?” Trudeau wrote on Twitter.

The tweet was a response to the story Perry told on Jimmy Kimmel Live in March, wherein he revealed his sordid legacy of bullying.

The former Spice Girl’s friends all came out to support her new endeavor, and some of the fashionable attendees included Naomie Harris, Jessica Alba, and Zoe Saldana, all of whom wore their favorite pieces from the Target line.

The company was certainly impressive, and the venue was decorated to perfection. The estate’s pool, which was flanked by Target-inspired topiaries, was occupied by a real mermaid who was more than happy to pose for Instagram pics.

Additionally, there was a garden of giant white roses, a telephone booth for pictures, a flower crown station, and a delicious candy bar.

Bella Hadid Shows How to Do FlaredJeans

Just in time for denim month, (which we will be celebrating here at InStyle all April) Bella Hadid showed us everything that is right about flared jeans. The model stepped out in New York wearing a pair from Stella McCartney featuring one of the season’s most popular accents—the undone, frayed hem.

Bella offset her denim with a brown belt, a black bag, and a fitted, tucked-in black top, keeping things au courant with a matching bomber jacket—perfect for the inclement N.Y.C. weather. She wore her dark locks pulled back in a tight bun and upped the celebrity effect with a pair of black sunglasses. To keep the long jeans’ hem from dragging on the ground, she added point-toed heels that made her already-long legs look basically endless.

The younger Hadid sister has only recently returned from her heavily-Instagrammed Jamaican getaway with friends, and seems to be back in full force, debuting a slew of magazine covers and serving major street style looks daily. Obviously her vacation was an effective reboot, as the raven haired cover girl was all smiles for the cameras.

See Nicole Richie Get April Fooled

April Fools! Getting tricked on this particular day happens to the best of us, and Nicole Richie shared a little bit of prankster inspo on Instagram in honor of the occasion.

“A little #AprilFools inspiration: tell a group of girls at a club you want to take their picture,” Richie wrote underneath her Instagram video, in which she and friends pose extensively for what they think is a still photograph, but turns out to be a video. Can anyone relate? We’ve certainly fallen victim to this one a few more times than we’d care to remember.

Richie credited the video (and prank) to her friend, photographer Carlos Eric Lopez, who tricked the House of Harlow designer and her crew into thinking they were having a pro take their group pic. They certainly got more than they bargained for!

Richie (who was a very good sport about the joke) has been busy as of late. This past week, she joined forces with the shopping app Project September to host a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood, and her new television show, Great News, is coming out on April 25th.

Now that we’ve caught up with Nicole, the question remains: What do you have up your sleeve for April Fools’ Day?
